Whilst perusing images for the free-spirit post, I unearthed this gull (chroicocephalus ridibundus) from the archives. Perched on the post one moment and then abruptly airborne in the nanoseconds between focus and shutter. Not the best of shots in terms of framing, athough at least the sense of action is captured with the full frame close-up.
Since the haiku-sounding composite, ‘coloured head/laughter abounds’, is the Greco-Roman origin for Black-Headed gull (kroikos=coloured + kephale=head and L.: ridere=to laugh + abundare=abounds) I felt that this one was more ‘joker is wild’ than free spirit. Spot the twinkle in they eye!
