London Tree Week #5

mono of Great Ormond Street ornamental treesIn the spirit of London Tree Week (LTW), Great Ormond street has its fair share of urban woodland, alongside a varied mixture of  architecture. Just past the intersection with Lamb’s Conduit,  hospital complexes give way to leafy, Georgian dwellings.

On one side, vintage Ash trees tower above and beyond the third floor windows, looking beautiful and stately, except perhaps to those whose light is blocked. By contrast, on the other side of the street, there has been an obvious attempt to avoid shade complaints with these small, foliage ornamentals. I recognise the species as a common enough garden tree though I am completely stumped as to the name. Any suggestions?
