Canada we salute you

The Canada Memorial in Green Park points towards the port of Halifax, from where many Canadian service personnel sailed for Europe. Just as I’d focused the camera, this little boy climbed on, and seemingly sensing the gravity of the moment, gave a salute.boy stands on canadian memorial, green park

heart-drawn to see where and by whom great things were suffered and done for them,
shall come to this deathless field, to ponder and dream;

    1. for some reason had not taken note of this memorial before (erected 1994) -and ‘happenstance’ is a word I did not know – perfectly describes the meaning – almost onomatopoeic!

  1. I visited the Canadian memorial in France, where much of the original trenches have been retained as a part of that memorial. It was extraordinarily tragic. Thousands of Canadians killed on this patch here, thousands of Australians killed on a patch there. A dreadful, incomprehensible time. I think this memorial is very fitting and beautiful.
