Weather Gallery: September

Virginia creeper in Autumn vermillionand for now it seems as though
you are still summer
still the high familiar
endless summer
yet with a glint
of bronze in the chill mornings
W.S. Merwin

As with August, so with September.  The month was mostly dry and rather warm, with a high pressure system from the east and temperatures topping the 70s, especially in the South. At its driest since 1959, brief but heavy downpours mid-month, conjured a desperate thirst to September’s aridity.

The official start of Autumn at the equinox on the 21st coincided with a holiday break in Suffolk – that most benign of landscapes where the elements surround and give notice of the quick changes we townies often miss.

Note to Edin theme users: Love the white background to slideshow BUT the captions overlay the images and cannot be read. Have had to pre-prepare images with a caption border
