As with August, so with September. The month was mostly dry and rather warm, with a high pressure system from the east and temperatures topping the 70s, especially in the South. At its driest since 1959, brief but heavy downpours mid-month, conjured a desperate thirst to September’s aridity.
The official start of Autumn at the equinox on the 21st coincided with a holiday break in Suffolk – that most benign of landscapes where the elements surround and give notice of the quick changes we townies often miss.
