Friday Flora 23.9.16

The sight of naked ladies (Colchinum autumnale) tumbling in the grass is a sure sign of the start of Autumn though the colour always seems out of season to me

of course there are always the lingering pink roses which look back with nostalgia  and the shrubby White Lady (Potentialla fruticosa) – drought tolerant and hence still blooming after the dry August

a delightful apparition at this time of year are the unexpected cool blue hues of Plumbago auriculata whilst Helichrysums appear to have harnessed the summer’s heat in everlasting readiness for the harvest festival

Dry shade tolerant perhaps but Japanese anenomes tend towards powdery mildew unless grown in damper, brighter spots where these heralds of Autumn garden can truly glow 03-japanese_anenomes
