OWS: Clean

It’s been a while since heavy rains gave our streets a deep clean. I know because I have favourite puddles and currently all of them are leaf heaps, mouldering in barely damp shallows. When pavements run with water, city buildings are cast in a fresh new light so it’s little wonder that photographers such as Gavin Hammond have London at their feet.

“forget the ink, the milk, the blood—
all was washed clean with the flood
we rose up from the falling waters
the fallen rain’s own sons and daughters”

Don Paterson
