WPC: Geometry

I cannot photograph architecture without being aware of the enormity of mathematical calculations that underlie each structure, as here for example, at One Embankment Place. It is a conversion from Charing Cross station backside to commercial offices and venue – though it will take a more than its 20 years to shake off the gritty backstreet feel, so high contrast mono fitted it best in my view.

there is music in the spacing of the spheres” ~ Pythagoras
The description of right lines and circles, upon which geometry is founded, belongs to mechanics. Geometry does not teach us to draw these lines, but requires them to be drawn” ~ Sir Isaac Newton
“The frightening thought that what you draw may become a building makes for reasoned lines” ~ Saul Steinberg

  1. the enormity of mathematical calculations behind the scene, well said.
