Like spam?

Of course not. None of us like spam but I’ve experienced a problem with spammers liking my likes or comments – these are seemingly from Russia with the kind of love that poisons the blogosphere. WordPress are offering no solution but suggestions are

  1. switch off comment likes: admin/sharing – go to bottom and untick ‘commment likes’ are on for all comment
  2. switch off likes: – for many of us this is not an ideal option as it gives us feedback on our posts when viewers do not comment

The latest WordPress forum post regarding spam likers is here

I’m rather sick of all this leading us up the garden path with false followers and likes etc but spam goes with the blog territory. Meanwhile here is a winding path I would like to be taken up again – one from last March in the New Forest which missed the post.

“The path, winding like silver, trickles on,
Bordered and even invaded by thinnest moss
That tries to cover roots and crumbling chalk”

  1. I love how you captured that path. I want to step on to it. 🙂

I’ve been deleting/removing spammers from my followers when I can. They seem to come in waves and have been easy to spot so far. I haven’t seen any in my comments or likes yet.

      1. I don’t check them or follow the links they leave, either. I can tell they’re spam or bots because they all have the same email address.

It’s funny, but I got my first ru spammers on some of my Likes (on other blogs) yesterday.

  2. Guess the negative sides for blogging are a necessary evil. Wish there were other ways, though, to solve that problem instead of disabling likes…

  3. Well, I’ve just been getting .ru spammers too, ignoring them at the moment, but pretty fed up with them
Like your path, by the way

        1. We can only disable our own facility for others to like a comment – the spammers seem to latch on where a comment has already been liked so this is a temporary deterrent – WordPress still working on the issue – keep spam filters on high though as the .ru coming through also as spam comments too – am keeping abreast of the issue here
