WPC: the spiral staircase

Spiral staircases seem made for thrillers and spectres. I’ve only just learned of the Tulip Stairs ghost at Queen’s House, Greenwich. A retired Reverend from British Columbia, one Ralph Hardy, did not see the apparition himself but when his camera film was developed, there appeared to be a shrouded figure or two gripping the bannister. Other spectral stories abound though I am taken more by the sheer marvel of this unsupported, wrought iron structure, designed by Inigo Jones. It’s actually a very pretty blue but the monochrome accentuates the helical pattern and makes it an apt subject for this week’s daily photo challenge: Twisted
